Such a powerful emotion wrought upon the mind. We can spend lifetimes in pursuit of ways to cope, diminish, or control the systematic effects of prolonged exposure to fear. It is no wonder that 1 in 10 people in America use anti-anxiety drugs.
Perhaps you have your own secret to dealing with stress. It’s true that exercise, being mindful, and eating healthy are key to self regulation.
In addition to these tools I present a deeper and more sustainable solution.
Try on for size the “real or not real” game. Its easy to play. Ask your self “Is what i am feeling real or not real?“ Is it true or false, a result of negative self talk driven by the enemy of love and wellbeing or is it a valid warning?
Indeed the reason for fear could be real, a sort of “warning to do or not to do“, but often this is not a lingering thing and passes away once you’ve heard, acknowledge and acted.
Not of these of which I speak. No I am taking about the crippling, wrenching, nagging fear that echos in your mind with repeating flashes with images of loss or memories re-hatched for remembrance of the tragedies of old. You see my friends these are the things of prisonment of the mind. These things prevent you from experiencing life from a reality based perspective full of promise and wonder.
Mark Twain once said, “I Am an Old Man and Have Known a Great Many Troubles, But Most of Them Never Happened”.
What a tragic loss of mental power wasted on things that never happened. This type of fear is a liar. A false profit, if you will, designed for only one thing. To imprison you into a feeling of helplessness without escape.
I can tell you that you can escape. You can hurdle these walls sure as you can climb a set of stairs or shout “enough”!
I challenge you to free yourself. Embrace the word of God and find out fo yourself what this great power is.
The book “Fear is a liar” might be a great place to start.
Good luck!
